Chelsea legend Desailly to complain to Fifa about Ajax goal disallowed through VAR

CHELSEA legend Marcel Desailly will ask Fifa to investigate Ajax’s disallowed goal in the Champions League clash between the two teams.

The former defender was livid when VAR ruled out the effort for Quincy Promes.

The Fifa ambassador claimed VAR got it wrong as his old side went on to win 1-0 with a late goal from Michy Batshuayi.

The beIN Sport pundit told viewers it was an astonishing decision.

The video ref rejected the goal because he felt Promes was offside.

But Promes was clearly onside when Hakim Ziyech had his initial shot.

Only when the ball left Ziyech’s boot, did Promes stray into an offside position.

Desailly claimed the video ref used the wrong image to get to his decision.

The France World Cup winner said: “They use the technology on the rhythm of the slow motion.

“They do not take the time to put a stop and have a look at the line and the distance of the ball from the feet.

“I’m a Fifa ambassador and I’m going to show them this because it’s an issue.

“To be able to be accurate you need an extra two minutes during the game.

“I will take this to Fifa.”

He felt that Ajax would have gone on to win the match had they taken the lead at that point.

There have been huge problems with VAR this term, with referees refusing to use pitchside cameras to review their original decisions.

Dutch former Chelsea legend Ruud Gullit fumed: “This is not offside.”

The initial view made it look as though the player was level.

But the video ref felt Promes was inches offside.

However, he crucially did not view a specific angle that showed Promes was onside when the first ball came in.

The win lifted Frank Lampard’s Blues ahead of Ajax to top Group H.
