How Man Utd could line up with Thomas Muller as they target January transfer for wantaway Bayern playmaker

THOMAS MULLER could be the first piece of the jigsaw to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s long rebuilding process at Manchester United.

The Bayern Munich forward could be heading for the exit door at the Allianz Arena having struggled for a starting role this season.

Muller, 33, has been at his boyhood club for an incredible 19-years but reports suggest he has asked to leave in the New Year.

United have been long-term admirers of the World Cup winner having attempted to land him in 2015.

But it appears he is now closer than ever to joining the Red Devils as Solskjaer pursues January additions in attack.

The Norwegian has confirmed he will be in the market to add to his threadbare strike force and relieve the pressure from Marcus Rashford.

Muller would almost be guaranteed regular football at United and his experience in the squad could prove vital.

He is just one of a number of players Solskjaer is hoping to add to his side including Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic.

If he does land the experienced duo it would transform United’s attack and make them a much more threatening outlet.

Mandzukic, a serial winner across Europe, would lead the line with the pace of Rashford and Martial on either side.

Muller would then be able to pull the strings behind them in the No10 role.

It is likely to mean a huge money move for Leicester superstar James Maddison will be put off until the summer.

Although it won’t deter them from making a switch for fellow Fox Ben Chilwell.

SunSport exclusively revealed how United scouts have been closely tracking the England left-back with a view to a high-profile move.
