Welbeck set to be out for months after tearing hamstring just 55 seconds into Watfords clash against Tottenham

DANNY WELBECK is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

The former Arsenal star hobbled off the pitch after just 55 seconds of Watford’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham on Saturday.

The former Manchester United and England star was replaced by Gerard Deulofeu

Watford have confirmed he has been ruled out of Saturday’s game against Bournemouth.

But Hornets boss Quique Sanchez Flores is still waiting to find out the full extent of the 28-year-old’s injury.

He said: “It’s bad news about Danny Welbeck, we need to check a little bit more and that will happen in the next few weeks.

“I think it’s a hard injury but we need to wait a little bit.

“He was disappointed, he was very sad, and I tried to help him and support him.

“But the face of Danny Welbeck was always the same.

“It’s impossible to change the morale, the mood, it will change a lot because he felt he had the opportunity to come back at a good level but now we need to wait again.”

Welbeck missed the second half of last season with an ankle injury, but the boss has confirmed his latest setback is not related to that.

He said: “It was not a risk [to play Welbeck] because when we were talking about taking care, we were talking about his ankle.

“This injury is his muscle, so it was completely different.

“He’s really fast and to change from zero to run quickly, the muscles can suffer a lot.

“He’s not playing too many minutes during the season but even during the week he was feeling really good and he didn’t report anything about the injury.”
