Solskjaer slams Man Utd strikers for non-existent defending in Partizan Belgrade win as they arrive home from Serbia

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER hit out at his strikers despite picking up their first away win since March.

Manchester United stars touched down in the early hours of this morning after Anthony Martial’s penalty sealed a 1-0 win against Partizan Belgrade.

It moved the Red Devils to the top of their Europa League group and eased the pressure on the Norwegian boss.

Martial’s first start since March is a timely boost for Solskjaer as well as the performance of young left-back Brandon Williams.

But the boss was still demanding more from his strike force insisting they need to work harder when defending from the front.

Speaking to MUTV, he said: “Second half I thought we dug in really well in the box, defended really well in the box.

“They played well in the second half and made us defend too deep.

“Im not happy with the defending at the front. I think thats been one of our strengths this season but I thought that was non-existent in the second half.

“That needs sorting out because we dont want to be a team who is just defending in the box.”

Williams, making just his second start, has put Luke Shaw’s place in the side under serious threat.

The 19-year-old won the penalty that ensured the win and is set to be given further chances in the first-team with Shaw sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Solskjaer added: “Brandon [Williams] was man of the match.

“He was absolutely excellent. Fantastic attitude, great attitude, great in the air, brave and he gets us a penalty by driving forward with the ball so we have found a left-back there.”

United will be hoping to pick up their first league away win since February when they travel to Norwich on Sunday.
