THE League Two game between Macclesfield Town and Bradford City has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

The decision was announced on the Macclesfield website just after 9am on Saturday after an early morning inspection by referee Scott Oldham.

A statement later confirmed the decision.

It read: “Further to a pitch inspection at the Moss Rose this morning, this afternoon’s scheduled Sky Bet League Two clash with Bradford City has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

“We will confirm the re-arranged date, as well as ticket information for the fixture in due course.”

Heavy overnight rain hit the Greater Manchester area on Saturday, sparking flood alerts.

Alerts have been issued by the government’s flood information service for the Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale Altrincham and Urmston.

The River Bollin near Knutsford, Wilsmlow, Macclesfield and Bollington is also currently rising.

Three roads were closed because of flooding in Oldham.

Macclesfield are 14th in League Two, four points off the play-off places and 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

A winding-up petition issued against the club was this wee adjourned again for “a few weeks”.

Macclesfield owe an undisclosed tax bill to HMRC.

On Wednesday, the club appeared in court for the sixth time in six months.

Their lawyer told the court they were waiting for “international payments” to arrive and he understood Brexit was having “some impact”.

In early October the club asked the EFL for help after failed to pay their players.
