Bayern Munich confirm Arsene Wenger has been rejected for manager job but club to call Arsenal icon to clear things up

ARSENE WENGER has been rejected for the manager’s job at Bayern Munich, the German club appeared to confirm.

But the Bavarians will call the former Arsenal boss to help “clear things up”.

Bayern Munich appear to have decided against appointing Arsene Wenger as their new manager to replace Niko Kovac

Wenger, 70, was heavily linked with taking over at the Bungesliga giants after they sacked Niko Kovac last week.

But after confirming Bayern asked if he was interested in the job and that they were due for talks this week, the Frenchman seemingly decided against the post.

BeIN Sports’ account posted an image of Wenger under the heading: “Wenger turns downBayern.”

And the quote read: “I wish good luck for Bayern, and for me the situation is settled.”

Now, Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists his side will stick with caretaker boss Hans-Dieter Flick for the forseeable future.

Rummenigge told Sport1: “We will work with Hansi Flick until further notice. I have respect for Arsene.

“We will call him and clear things up. I don’t want to stress him.”

Since Kovac’s dismissal, Flick has taken charge of two games and picked up two wins.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Ivan Perisic sealed a 2-0 win over Olympiakos on Wednesday and then the reining German champions smashed rivals Borussia Dortmund 4-0 last night.

Lewandowski got two, Serge Gnabry added another and former Bayern defender Mats Hummels completed the scoring with an own goal.

Wenger has been out of management since the end of the 2017/18 season, when he left Arsenal after 22 years in charge.

Since then he has worked as a pundit for various media outlets.

And the latest update on the Bayern job means he looks set to be able to continue his holidaying – and frequent gym sessions.

Wenger was snapped on the beach in Dubai with his shredded body and bulging six-pack showing he is still keeping up the hard work despite being out of a permanent job.
