Chelsea assistant manager Jody Morris trolls Jose Mourinho by laughing off his criticism of Lampards defence

CHELSEA assistant manager Jody Morris has laughed off concerns from former boss Jose Mourinho surrounding the Blues’ defence.

The Portuguese also criticised Chelsea’s performances in big games this season.

But when the clip of Mourinho speaking on Sky Sports circulated on Twitter, Morris was amused rather than annoyed or worried himself.

He quoted a tweet of the video, saying: “Jose is still worried”, followed by three laughing emojis.

The Blues have twice lost to Manchester United this season, as well as being beaten 2-1 at Stamford Bridge by Liverpool.

On top of this, they have failed to win either of their home Champions League matches, falling 1-0 to Valencia before last week’s epic 4-4 draw with Ajax.

Mourinho said on Sky Sports: “In the first weekend I was worried, and I’m still worried, with the big matches.

“I think fantastic work, the kids that are coming to the team, they’re fitting amazingly well with the top-class players like Willian, Kante… I think really, really great work by Frank.

“But they lost twice against United.

“They lost against Liverpool at home.

“They conceded four goals against Ajax and I’m very, very curious to see Chelsea (in) the next match at the Etihad.

“I’m curious to see if they’ve found that great empathy between the good football that they play and the pragmatism that the top teams they must have, especially to play against the top teams.”

Morris, who played 164 matches across a seven-year spell at Chelsea as a player, worked as an academy coach at the Blues for four years before leaving to join up with Lampard at Derby in 2018.

This spell included working at the helm of the all-conquering under-18s side while Mourinho was manager of the first-team.

But now assistant gaffer to Lampard since returning, Morris doesn’t seem too concerned by the worries of his former boss.

Chelsea travel to the Etihad to play Manchester City next time out, having last won there on the way to the title under Antonio Conte three years ago.
