Injury setback for Grand National hero Tiger Roll

, Injury setback for Grand National hero Tiger Roll

TWO-TIME Grand National hero Tiger Roll will have a minor operation this morning to remove a small chip in a leg joint.

However, trainer Gordon Elliott believes he will get the Aintree star back on track before the Cheltenham Festival.
Tiger Roll could make history by becoming only the second horse after Red Rum to win three Grand Nationals.

The nine-year-old is a top-priced 6-1 favourite to land an historic hat-trick in the world’s greatest race in April.

Gigginstown racing manager Eddie O’Leary said: “The setback will rule him out of Christmas and we hope he will be back for the Boyne Hurdle in February.”

If all goes well with the operation, Tiger Roll remain on course for an incredible fifth Cheltenham Festival win.

Elliott said: “It’s a blow, but I would hope to have him back in work in time to run at Navan. If not, he will go straight to Cheltenham.”
