Roger Federer to earn staggering 8m in six days from exhibitions that would dwarf prize money from entire year

ROGER FEDERER will reportedly earn a staggering 8million in six days from exhibition matches, dwarfing his prize money won across the rest of the year.

The Swiss ace is jetting off to Latin America after the conclusion of the ATP Finals in London to take part in five friendly matches.

Reports state that Roger Federer could earn as much as 8m in six days for playing his five exhibitions in Latin America

On November 19, he will play in Chile then in Argentina the next day.

After one rest day, the 38-year-old is scheduled to take to the court in Colombia, Mexico and Ecuador, clocking up the air miles dramatically.

And according to TWI via Punto de Break, Fed will pocket more than 1.5m per match, which includes a duel with Juan Martin Del Potro in Buenos Aires and the match in Quito taking place on the same day as the Davis Cup final.

Switzerland failed to qualify for the new-format finals but Fed may not have represented his country anyway.

He has pulled out of the inaugural ATP Cup in January to spend more time with his family – as a result, his nation will not play at the tournament due to Stan Wawrinka’s decision to skip the event, too.

BUMPER PAY DAYS

To put the reported earnings from the upcoming exhibitions into context, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has earned 5.5m across the entirety of 2019, making the trip to Latin America seem incredibly lucrative.

Federer has won four titles this year – in Dubai, Miami, Halle and Basel – taking his career tally up to 103 and his total earnings to just shy of 100m.

Alexander Zverev, playing at this week’s season-ending tournament at the O2 Arena, has come under some criticism after forgoing the chance to represent Germany at the Davis Cup finals in Madrid next week before signing up to play Federer in Santiago and Mexico City.

But Boris Becker, who will captain Germany at the ATP Cup in Australia, defended his country’s top-ranked player’s decision.

Becker said: “He’s old enough to make his own decision. He decided amongst a few other players when the decision was made to change the Davis Cup format and to have it in one week next year not to participate.

“He’s done the decision already a while ago amongst many other players. We accept it.

“What he does in his off time, he’s his own man. We were all our own boss. What he chooses to do or not to do between the end of the ATP Finals and the beginning of 2020 is his choice.”
