Our man Sam Twiston-Davies looks ahead to a big set of rides at Cheltenham and Wetherby

, Our man Sam Twiston-Davies looks ahead to a big set of rides at Cheltenham and Wetherby

THE weather has been a right pain in the backside this week.

I was down to have three nice rides at Cheltenham on Friday so it was very annoying that they had to abandon.

Its looking more positive for the weekend thankfully. We live just down the road from Cheltenham and weve had a hell of a lot of rain over the last week, so if they can get the racing on fair play to them.

It meant I had a free afternoon and it was nice to get a bit of downtime. Id been well overdue a haircut, the lads have been taking the mick out of my bushy barnet.

Plus I had a load of odd jobs stacking up and Ive got to keep the missus happy, so I had no excuses not to get them done!

I’ve had some rotten luck with meetings being called off in the past. There was a time back in the day when it snowed the whole way on my four-hour drive to Folkestone and they called it off as I was pulling into the car park. I wasnt a happy camper.

I would love to be in two places at once today as we have some lovely horses running at Cheltenham, but I’m dreaming that Good Boy Bobby (1.05 Wetherby) could be very special and I want to make sure I’m on him at every opportunity.

He was just caught by Brewin’upastorm on his chasing debut and that horse won easily at Taunton on Thursday. I want to get as much of a feel of Bobby over fences as I can – hes an aeroplane.

Ill also get the leg up on Mr Antolini (2.15 Wetherby) who is in really good nick. Hes back in a handicap now and must have a very good chance.

Down at Cheltenham, Nige has two in the BetVictor Gold Cup. Count Meribel ran really well in his prep race at Carlisle, he jumped and travelled beautifully and it put him spot on for this.

The rain has come for yard legend Splash Of Ginge. The wetter the better for him and he has won this in the past. He has snuck in at the foot of the weights and we are hopeful of a good run.

Sunday cant come quick enough as Im riding Al Dancer in the Arkle Trial at HQ.

He goes head-to-head with Getaway Trump again. We had the hood on our lad that day to try and keep him relaxed, but he was almost too chilled out.

Thankfully when Getaway Trump eyeballed him he got stuck in and saw the race out well.

We are going to take the hood off and stick some ear plugs in instead this time. It’s a fine line with two-milers, they can easily boil over but you don’t want to relax them to the point they nod off and miss fences out as the race can quickly get away from you.

But he schooled lovely on Monday and its all systems go.
