Marcos Alonsos Chelsea career looks over as Lampard confirms he has left full-back out of team on purpose

MARCOS ALONSO’S Chelsea career looks to be coming to an end after Frank Lampard admitted he is simply leaving the defender out.

The Spaniard, 28, has not featured for the Blues since November 5 when he was hooked at half-time in the dramatic 4-4 draw against Ajax.

Marcos Alonso could be nearing the exit door at Chelsea with Frank Lampard admitting the Spaniard is simply being left out

Reece James came on in his place with Cesar Azpilicueta moved across to left-back as Chelsea fought back for a point – with both full-backs getting on the scoresheet.

Two of James, Azpilicueta and Emerson have started the four matches since but there has been no sign of Alonso in the matchday squads.

Boss Lampard was asked about Alonso’s exclusion as he faced the media ahead of tomorrow night’s clash with Aston Villa.

He said: “I have selection choices in different positions. We need a squad.

“Some players will be disappointed. But we need everyone.”

Alonso signed for Chelsea from Fiorentina in 2016 and won the Premier League under Antonio Conte in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

He has picked up winners medals for the FA Cup and Europa League since but now with the transfer window reopening in just four weeks, his spell in West London could come to an end in January.

There will be no Ross Barkley or Antonio Rudiger for the visit of Villa.

Tammy Abraham will be assessed tomorrow before the game as the Blues prepare to welcome back club legend John Terry in the opposition’s dugout.

Lampard added: “We are giving Abraham every opportunity to play tomorrow.

“We will make the call tomorrow, he has a little bit of pain. He was in good form, he is always keen, he is trying his best.

“I went up against Terry twice last year. I have huge respect for the job he and Dean Smith have done.

“He will get a great reception from the fans. It will be pretty emotional for him and I will look forward to seeing him back.
