Man Utd stars beg clubs hierarchy NOT to sack Solskjaer and let him rebuild after stunning Spurs win

MANCHESTER UNITED stars are urging club chiefs to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer time to rebuild the club.

The Old Trafford boss’ job is on the line and Mauricio Pochettino is available after being sacked by Tottenham.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got a much-needed win over Tottenham

But The Times reports that the squad told key figures at the club that they think the Norwegian is the right man for the job before Wednesday’s clash with Spurs.

United put in one of their best performances of the season to beat Jose Mourinho’s side, with a Marcus Rashford double handing Solskjaer a lifeline.

The Red Devils had come into the game off the back of disappointing draws with promoted Aston Villa and Sheffield United as well as a defeat to Astana, albeit with a weakened XI.

Another huge fixture is up next as Solskjaer leads his side out in a derby showdown with Manchester City.

And the former Molde and Cardiff manager hopes to keep up the momentum after the 2-1 win over Spurs.

He said: “Confidence is a strange thing in football, you can get performances and results like Wednesday night and it boosts it so much and I know our boys will be up for it.

“Energy wise we should be fine, they are young, 24 hrs less recovery time shouldn’t matter, we will go on adrenaline.

“We’re going away against arguably the best team in England, a difficult game.

“I said it before the Tottenham game when everything was doom and gloom that it’s a chance to turn that doubt into belief and for us if we can manage to get another performance.”

David De Gea is looking forward to the clash – but urged his team-mates to keep their structure in a high-pressure atmosphere.

He told the club’s official website: “Its always a special fixture. Its a derby game, against a top side who have a clear way of playing and like to knock the ball around.

With all their pressure you have to be very good defensively. As I say, its always a special game and I cant wait for the game to come around.

Im keen to try and put in a good performance so we can go away with the three points which would be really great for us.”
