Police arrest fan for alleged racism in SEPARATE incident to Antonio Rudiger monkey chants at Tottenham vs Chelsea

POLICE investigating the alleged racist abuse against Antonio Rudiger arrested a fan at yesterday’s game at Tottenham – for a SEPARATE incident of discrimination.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they received a complaint and have launched an investigation into claims Chelsea star Rudiger was taunted by monkey chants by someone in the Spurs crowd.

Police have arrested a fan for alleged racism in a separate incident to monkey chants directed at Antonio Rudiger at Spurs vs Chelsea

They are working with the North London club and Chelsea in a bid to identify anyone involved – and also try to pin-point who threw a drink at Kepa Arrizabalaga.

But it has now emerged there was a second incident of alleged racism among supporters at the game at the new Tottenham Stadium.

Met officers arrested a supporter at the match for a “racially aggravated public order” offence, which was not linked to the Rudiger incident.

It is not clear whether the person arrested was a Spurs or Chelsea fan, but it is an alarming development from a day which has brought fresh shame to the English game.

Six arrests were made in total on Sunday, two for assault, another two for affray and the last being a public order offence.

A Met Police statement said: “Police were made aware of alleged racist chanting during the second half of the Tottenham vs Chelsea match on Sunday, 22 December.

“Officers will work with the club in an attempt to identify any people responsible.

“There were a total of six arrests as part of the match-day policing operation.”

The FA have this morning revealed they have launched their own investigation into events during Chelsea’s 2-0 win.
