OK Corral lands thrilling Sky Bet Chase on high-class card at Doncaster

OK Corral bounced back to his best under a power-packed Derek O’Connor to win the Sky Bet Chase.

Nicky Henderson’s dour stayer was on a retrieval mission heading to Doncaster after three lifeless runs.

But he came roaring back to form under top-weight, staying on bravely from the back of the last to run down Fingerontheswitch close home.

It was a determined performance and O’Connor lavished praise on his horse, who returned a 9-1 chance, and suggested he could be one for the Grand National.

O’Connor said: The whip can be over-rated at times. When you have a willing partner its half the battle and he strode out all the way to the line.

He loves a fast, speedy track like Warwick and Doncaster and he could be an Aintree horse possibly.

I was lucky enough to ride this horse in Warwick. I got the call up again.

“There are no future plans, its just that I got on so well with him last year, thankfully I got the ride back on him today.”

Mister Fisher had earlier given Henderson victory in the Grade 2 Lightning Novices’ Chase.

The progressive six-year-old beat Al Dancer by a length but appeared to have something up his sleeve and was cut into 14-1 (from 20) for the Arkle with Unibet.

The admirable Lady Buttons secured her second win in the Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle, while Ramses De Teilee fought them all off from the front to win the River Don Novices’ Hurdle in grand style.
