, Gordon Elliott runner called Burn The Evidence raises eyebrows ahead of debut after trainer’s dead horse photo shame

A HORSE trained by Gordon Elliott with a suspect name will make her debut next week – days afer the trainer’s dead horse photo shame.

Elliott, 43, shocked the sporting world when an image of him sat on the animal’s corpse went viral online.

The three-time Grand National winner apologised twice for his ‘indefensible moment of madness’.

Elliott has since been axed by Betfair and lost a lucrative sponsorship deal with two multi-millionaire backers.

But he has been saddling winners in the meantime and, at the time of writing, another horse trained by him was set to make her debut at Clonmel racecourse in Ireland on Tuesday.

Normally that would not cause much of a stir.

But the £12,500 filly’s name, in light of what has gone on, caught the eye of a number of racing punters.

The four-year-old is called Burn The Evidence.

She will make her debut in a flat race over 2m at 5.30pm.

The horse’s owner is listed as F Morris, who previously owned another Elliott-trained horse called Mr Steadfast.

Elliott also has a runner named Recent Revelations running in the 3.58 at Navan on Saturday.

And on Sunday a horse called Eyewitness, also trained by Elliott, is entered to run in the 5.20 at Leopardstown.

But those horses have both run before, so it is Burn The Evidence that really catches the eye.

As one punter said regarding the naming of the horse and the timing of her run: “It’s quite unfortunate…”
