Racegoers were absolutely shocked to see the car drive down the course

She was eventually stopped by police at Gloucester Park racecourse in Perth, Australia.

The astonishing footage was captured by racegoer Jarod Crichton.

He filmed the Subaru car rounding the bend and being driven quite slowly down the home straight.

Speaking to 7News Perth, he recalled the horror moment and how he tried to stop the woman from driving again.

He said: “We thought, bloody hell, we better jump the fence, go up to the car and pull the keys out’.

“She had locked the windows, wound the windows up and locked the doors.”

Photos showed the driver pinned to the floor by cops after finally being stopped.

Reports claimed she sat in the car on the track for 20 minutes after eventually pulling up.

The horses were getting ready to start a race when the car burst onto the course
The car delayed racing by an hour

No one was hurt in the incident and racing was delayed for an hour.

The woman was taken to Royal Perth hospital.

A TV news report carried comments from people alleging the same woman drove into their car minutes before she veered onto the racecourse.

A statement from Racing and Wagering Western Australia, the authority in charge of racing in the area, said: “The safety of our horses and participants is paramount.

“RWWA and Gloucester Park will review security measures to ensure such incidents are not able to occur in the future.”

Gary Hall, a horse trainer who was at the track and witnessed what happened, told 7News: “Fifteen seconds later and the race would have been in progress, somebody could even have been killed.”
