THE Grand National is the most famous horse race in the world.
So it’s hardly surprising there is mega money on offer for those who win the Aintree showpiece.
A place in history, the thrill of victory… and a bulging bank account are all guaranteed for coming first.
But just how much will they get?
Connections of Saturday’s winner will pocket a whopping £375,000.
This will be divided between the horse’s owners, the trainer and the jockey.
The total prize fund for this year’s race is £750,000.
Six figures is nothing to be sniffed at but the effect of no punters on racecourses has been felt, with the overall pot falling £250,000 since three years ago.
There was no Grand National in 2020 owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
A virtual race was run instead and won by Potters Corner, who will line up in the real thing this year.
The £375,000 on offer to the winner makes the Grand National the richest Jumps race in Britain.
Only the Cheltenham Gold Cup comes near it.
Jack Kennedy and connections of winner Minella Indo shared £263,765 between them after that thrilling victory last month.
And it means the Grand National does not match the Epsom Derby for the UK’s richest race.

The contest will this year boast an incredible prize pot of more than £1.1million.
None can compare to the world’s richest race, though, the Saudi Cup.
Irish jockey David Egan bagged the biggest payday of his career when winning aboard Mishriff back in February.
The rider won £65,000 per SECOND for connections – a total of £14m – with his victory at King Abdulaziz racecourse in Riyadh.
