Man Utd drop from ninth to 33rd in sporting wage league as Barca, Real Madrid and Juventus take top three spots

MANCHESTER UNITED have dropped from ninth to 33rd in the sporting wage league, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus taking the top three spots.

According to the latest data from Sporting Intelligence, United are spending an average of 118,000 per player per week.

Man Utd have dropped to 33rd in the global sporting wages table

Old Trafford officials are paying David De Gea 375,000 a week, while Paul Pogba rakes in 290,000 per week.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both rake in over 200,000 a week, too.

But the average weekly wage per star is just 118,000 per week – miles behind Barcelona in top spot at 189,000 a week – as they slip down the wage table as well as the Premier League.

Real Madrid (172,000) and Juventus (155,000) rank second and third respectively – before the NBA dominates the top ten.

Spots No4 to No11 are all basketball teams, with Paris Saint-Germain (137,000) and Manchester City (134,000) sandwiched between the block of NBA franchises.

Incredibly, all 30 NBA teams feature in the top 38 in the global sporting wages list.

The lowest-spending basketball team – the New York Knicks – fork out 109,000 a week in wages.

Premier League leaders Liverpool sit 41st at 106,000 – below Atletico Madrid (39th, 108,000) and Bayern Munich (22nd, 125,000).

Of the 350 clubs analysed in the study, Scottish Premiership side Hamilton spent the least money at just 791 per player per week.

But the standout club are Man Utd, so often thought of as one of the biggest spenders in the sporting world, down in 33rd.

Now under the leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United are going into Christmas in their worst shape in 30 years.

Sitting eighth in the Premier League, their joint-lowest on Christmas Day in history, Man Utd have just 25 points.

So does Ed Woodward need to be spending more in a bid to get United back to their glory days?
