Ex-Man Utd star Ashley Young ‘in talks’ with Watford over shock transfer return if Inter Milan do not offer him new deal

FORMER Manchester United skipper Ashley Young is reportedly ‘in talks’ with old club Watford over a shock return to the Premier League from Inter Milan.

The 35-year-old is toasting Inter’s Serie A title success after second-place Atalanta’s draw at Sassuolo crowned Antonio Conte’s men champions with four games to spare.

The winger turned full-back joined Watford aged ten and made his senior debut as an 18-year-old in 2003.

He made 107 appearances before leaving for Aston Villa for 2007 but could be heading back to Vicarage Road this summer.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports the Hornets have opened talks with Young to bring him back to Hertfordshire as a free agent if he is not offered a new deal at Inter.

His current contract expires at the end of the season and the journalist claims there is a ‘huge chance’ Young could return to where it all began.

He would also be playing in the Premier League after Xisco Munoz’s men bounced straight back up to the top flight.

Club-record £40million signing Ismaila Sarr scored the crucial goal to secure a 1-0 win over Millwall and spark jubilant celebrations last month.

SunSport exclusively revealed Young is weighing up his future with a one-year extension believed to be on the table from Inter.

Young – who turns 36 in July – would love to end his career at the place it started despite the lure of Champions League football on offer at Inter.

Samuel Eto’o was fuming over his inclusion as a right winger in France Football’s nominees for greatest footballers of all time

In October last year, the ex-England star – who was named in the 2018 World Cup team of the tournament – revealed he would quit life in Italy immediately for a return home.

On Watford’s ‘Golden Tales’ podcast, he said: “If I could go back and play there [at Watford] again, I would walk from Italy right now because it’s what I know, it’s where I come from and it’s what allowed me to be who I am and get where I am.

“For me, at my age now, and you can ask my family, you can ask my agent, if I had the opportunity to go back and finish my career at Watford, I would jump at the chance.”
