Punters in dreamland as Danilo D’Airy backed from 100/1 to 13/2 coasts to victory despite racing 38lbs out of handicap

PUNTERS were in dreamland at Warwick on Saturday as Danilo D’Airy was backed in from 100-1 to 13/2 to coast to victory.

Running in the 7.50 at Warwick Danilo D’Airy, racing 38lbs out of the handicap, took the lead at the first and pulled clear early on before winning by a distance.

Jordan Nailor steered the gelding to victory in just his fourth run since joining trainer Robert Bevis in 2020.

His previous three outings gave little clue that this performance was coming with an 11th place finish at Fontwell in February when he was priced at 200-1.

Prior to that he was pulled up at Hereford in January and finished fourth at Leicester in December.

But he put on a huge display with Bevis saying the slower ground – soft, heavy in places – favoured him, as did the step up in trip to three miles.

And racing fans celebrated the surprise win.

One wrote: “Danilo D’Airy, backed from 100-1 into 13-2, wins with ease at Warwick, despite racing 38lb out of the handicap! WOW!! What a gamble.”

Another said: “Unreal stuff here! Danilo D’Airy wins with a mark of 35! 100/1 into a SP of 13/2.”

However some have called for an investigation after he raced 38lbs out of the handicap.
