Top jockey Bryony Frost speaks of close bond with Grand National-winning father Jimmy

TOP jockey Brynoy Frost has spoken of her close bond with her Grand National-winning father Jimmy.

Bryony is one of the top women jockeys in the sport and has made giant strides alongside the likes of fellow riders Rachael Blackmore and Hollie Doyle.

Bryony and Jimmy Frost are a superstar father-daughter combo in horse racing

Her biggest moment came aboard Frodon when winning the King George at Kempton last Boxing Day.

And she joked her parents have watched the race back more than her – because it’s an excuse to crack open a bottle of bubbly!

Bryony told horseracing.co.uk: “I think mum and dad have watched the replay of the King George more.

“They use it as an excuse to open a bottle of wine or champagne!

“They go, ‘oh well, Bryony won the King George so let’s drink to Frodon!”

Jimmy, who won the 1989 Grand National on Little Polvier, said he and wife Nikki are incredibly proud of their superstar.

And he even admitted she’s a better jockey than he was, even though she is yet to win the sport’s most famous race.

Frost and Froden are a match made in heaven on the racecourse

Jimmy said: “We’re proud parents, not just because of her riding, she’s a great kid and has always done us proud.

“She has always made us proud, whether it’s in life or riding. She is a great person to have around.

“She’s a lot better than I was! Her judgement of pace is better.

“If we share any similarities [as jockeys] it’s over fences, our style and the way we approach them is similar.”

Bryony said she still shares a close bond with her old man and that they will never lose that.

She added: “I’m very much his little girl even though I’m 26.

“Life has changed considerably in a short time. It’s been a whirlwind but epic and I still rely on him.

“If ever I have a question it’s dad I call.”
