Man Utd star Mason Greenwood set for Euro 2020 call-up, with England boss Gareth Southgate very keen

MASON GREENWOOD’S Manchester United form has fired him into Euro 2020 contention, according to reports.

The whizz-kid, 18, scored nine goals in the first half of the campaign after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed him a first-team chance.

Gareth Southgate is keeping tabs on Man Utd starlet Mason Greenwood

And Greenwood, who has become increasingly important for United as the season goes on, is in line for a shock England call-up this summer.

The Daily Mail quotes a source as saying: “Gareth likes Mason and has made his feelings clear. He is a strong candidate to make the squad.

“Callum Hudson-Odoi was selected before he had even played a Premier League match for Chelsea Mason has already played 20 times. They like everything about him, his technique, the lack of backlift when he strikes the ball.

“They are very keen and if he continues to get games and goals, it is hard to see him not making the cut.”

Greenwood has played 16 times for England youth teams – scoring three goals – but with just four Under-21s caps, Solskjaer is urging caution over the youngster.

Theo Walcott is a clear example of a young player who struggled after being thrust into the England set-up for a major tournament.

But Gareth Southgate will be forced to take notice if Greenwood keeps finding the net at Old Trafford.

Harry Kane is hopeful of recovering from surgery in time to be fit for the summer and should lead the line for the Three Lions.

Jamie Vardy could come out of retirement and Danny Ings has been in lethal form for Southampton.

Raheem Sterling can also play up top after being deployed through the middle in Pep Guardiola’s fluid Manchester City side.
