Jadon Sancho becomes only Man Utd’s FOURTH most expensive signing as 12 top arrivals revealed – but how did they fare?

JADON SANCHO has become Manchester United’s fourth-most-expensive signing ever.

The England star, 21, has finally secured his £73million move to Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho has become Man Utd’s fourth-most-expensive player ever at £73million

As revealed by SunSport, Sancho will pocket £350,000 a week at United – more than triple his Borussia Dortmund pay.

United bosses – and fans – will hope Sancho will become an instant hit back in Manchester, having once been on the books of City.

But how have Man Utd’s other 11 most-expensive signings fared since their big-money transfers?

1. PAUL POGBA – £89.3m

Paul Pogba is still Man Utd’s record signing following his 2016 move from Juventus

HAVING left United on a free to join Juventus in 2012, Pogba quickly became one of the best central midfielders on the planet.

Four years later, Red Devils chiefs splashed a monster £89.3m to bring him back – with an additional £20m believed to have gone to his agent, Mino Raiola.

Since ‘Pogback’, the 2018 World Cup winner has struggled with form and injuries at times, even hinting he was to quit in the summer of 2019, with Real Madrid interested.

But on his day, Pogba is still one of the best players in the world, scoring 39 times in 199 games in all competitions for United and helping them win the Europa League-League Cup double in 2016-17.

2. HARRY MAGUIRE – £80m

Harry Maguire has been excellent since joining United from Leicester in an £80m deal in 2019

AFTER an excellent spell at Leicester, the England star completed his £80m move to Man Utd in the summer of 2019.

Since then, Maguire has played a gut-busting 107 times in all competitions and has been a near-ever-present but for his injury late in the 2020-21 season.

Also United captain, Maguire is unquestionably one of the first names on the team-sheet and worthy of his £80m price-tag.

United are now believed to be close to signing Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane to finally give Maguire the superstar partner he deserves.

3. ROMELU LUKAKU – £75m

Lukaku never quite found his top form at Old Trafford and was sold to Inter Milan in 2019

FOLLOWING his red-hot spell at Everton, Man Utd beat Chelsea to the signing of the Belgian forward.

Fans had high hopes Lukaku would be the superstar striker they needed to finally reclaim the Premier League title.

But the former Blues ace failed to score with any consistency and was frequently singled out for his poor first touch.

Lukaku scored 42 times in 96 games for United but has rediscovered his lethal form at Inter Milan following his £73m move in 2019, netting 64 times in just 95 matches and helping them win Serie A in 2020-21.

4. JADON SANCHO – £73m

Jadon Sancho will hope to bring his red-hot Dortmund form with him to Man Utd

HAVING worked his way through the youth systems at Watford and Man City, Sancho turned heads when he moved to the continent to join Dortmund.

The Three Lions star has been electric since joining, involved in 109 goals in three seasons, made all the more impressive by the fact he’s STILL only 21.

United will hope he can carry that form over to the Premier League.

5. ANGEL DI MARIA – £59.7m

Angel Di Maria endured a torrid season at Man Utd before leaving to join PSG

AFTER four glittering years at Real Madrid, United thought they’d played a blinder in signing the Argentine ace.

But Di Maria scored just three goals in 27 largely unimpressive Premier League games, with his worldie of a chip against Leicester the only real highlight.

He was sold to Paris Saint-Germain after one season for around £44m.

6. AARON WAN-BISSAKA – £50m

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a near-ever-present for Man utd since joining from Crystal Palace in 2019

HAVING burst into the Crystal Palace first team, United were quick to bolster their weak right-back ranks with a move for Wan-Bissaka in 2019, joining Maguire in a major defensive overhaul.

Wan-Bissaka has looked rock solid in defence but has lacked a little something extra in attack.

The former Eagles ace has played 100 times in just two seasons, proving his importance to the team – and that he was worth every penny.

=7. FRED – £47m

Fred has started to find his feet in England after a rough start following his £47m move

THE Brazilian spent five years in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk, with United happy to splash £47m to land the midfield star in 2018.

Fred got off to a slow start at Old Trafford, though – before eventually finding his feet in recent months under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In all, Fred has played 121 times for United, scoring four goals.

=7. BRUNO FERNANDES – £47m

Bruno Fernandes has been sensational for Man Utd since joining for 347m in January 2020

EASILY the best value for money on the list, Fernandes joined United in a £47m deal from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

Since then, Fernandes has been involved in 45 goals in 51 Premier League games and has been the key factor in the side’s charge up the top-flight.

9. ANTHONY MARTIAL – £44.5m

Anthony Martial hasn’t quite lived up to his promise since joining from Monaco in 2015

MARTIAL exploded onto the scene with Monaco as a teenager in 2014-15, with United spending an initial £36m to bring him to Old Trafford.

Man Utd have already spent £8.5m in add-ons, with the total fee potentially rising to £57.6m.

Despite the hype and whopping transfer fee, Martial has been largely disappointing, especially as a centre-forward.

Most-often used on the left wing, Martial has scored 78 times in 256 games in all competitions for United, managing just four Premier League goals in 2020-21.

10. NEMANJA MATIC – £40m

Nemanja Matic has been an important role player for Man Utd since signing in 2017

THE emergence of Scott McTominay has somewhat limited Matic’s game-time in recent seasons.

But the Serbian former Chelsea midfielder has been an important player at Old Trafford since his 2017 switch from Stamford Bridge.

Matic has played 157 times for the Red Devils, including 36 games in all competitions last season.

11. DONNY VAN DE BEEK – £39m

Donny van de Beek has been anonymous since joining from Ajax in 2020 but hasn’t been helped by Bruno Fernandes’ ridiculous form

THE biggest flop on this list, the former Ajax ace joined United in the summer of 2020 for £39m.

Plenty was expected of the exciting, attacking young Dutchman.

But unfortunately for Van de Beek, he’s stuck behind Fernandes in the pecking order for the No10 position and has been hugely underwhelming in his limited chances.

The Holland international looks almost certain to be moved on this summer after a torrid 2020-21.

Van de Beek scored just once in 19 Premier League games with 15 of those off the bench.

12. JUAN MATA – £37.1m

Juan Mata is well on his way to becoming a Man Utd legend

THE Spaniard is well on his way to becoming a club legend having joined from Chelsea in January 2014.

Not only has Mata been a true team player in that time, he’s even launched the Common Goal – the charitable initiative urging players to donate one per cent of their salary to good causes.

Mata has scored 51 times in 247 games for United across the last seven-and-a-half years, helping them win the 2015 FA Cup and 2017 Europa League-League Cup double.
