Stuart Broad OUT for whole summer – with England set to play home Test without him or Anderson for first time since 2012

STUART BROAD has been ruled out for the summer — as England’s injury crisis deepened.

Broad received his diagnosis hours after Jimmy Anderson was sidelined from the second Test against India at Lord’s.

Broad shared the diagnosis of his injury with those following him on social media
The England bowler is set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines

England will enter a home Test without either of the bowlers for the first time since 2012.

A scan revealed Broad, 35, has a tear in his right calf — and he is expected to be out for two to three months.

He hurt himself while warming up on Tuesday.

Broad posted a picture on Instagram of himself on a sofa, holding his pet dog with his injured leg attached to a medical device.

And he wrote: “A moment before training, all smiles, then during the warm-up, I jumped a hurdle, landed a bit awkwardly on my right ankle then the next step felt like I’d been whipped by a rope as hard as you can imagine on the back of my leg.

“I actually turned to @jimmya9 [Jimmy Anderson] & asked why he whipped me!

“When I realised he was nowhere near  I knew I was in trouble. Scans say grade 3 calf tear. So innocuous.

“Season over & gutted to miss this India Test Series but a huge focus on Australia now.

“Going to take my time, no rush, baby steps & be the fittest I can be heading out there.”

Anderson, 39, England’s all-time leading wicket-taker, felt stiffness in his left thigh at training on Tuesday — and did not bowl during the team’s practice session yesterday.

England are hopeful he will be fit for the Third Test against India on August 25.

Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Olly Stone are already missing.

Saqib Mahmood joined the squad yesterday and now either he or Craig Overton will take Anderson’s place.

Durham paceman Mark Wood plays instead of Broad.
