Tottenham ‘could ask Premier League to POSTPONE Brighton clash’ after Covid outbreak with Rennes game also in chaos

TOTTENHAM could reportedly ask the Premier League to POSTPONE Sunday’s away clash at Brighton following the club’s Covid outbreak.

A number of Spurs players and staff members have tested positive for coronavirus, with the club awaiting results of PCR tests.

Tottenham have been hit by a Covid outbreak with a number of players and staff testing positive

All those that have recorded positive tests are said to be double vaccinated.

According to The Telegraph, at least seven members of Tottenham’s players and staff have contracted Covid, though identities have not yet been revealed.

The news outlet states that the North London outfit could ask for their upcoming trip at the Amex Stadium to be rescheduled.

With the possibility of more positive cases, Spurs, who have kept their training ground open on Tuesday morning, are likely to consider requesting the weekend’s game to be pushed back.

And they also claim that Thursday’s crucial Europa Conference League match against Rennes has been thrown into chaos.

Antonio Conte‘s men must beat the Ligue 1 side to stand any chance of progressing out of the group.

Though for the final group fixture to not go ahead, Tottenham would need more players to be ruled out.

A Uefa rule stipulates that matches are only in jeopardy ‘if less than 13 players registered on the A list or no registered goalkeeper are available’.

With Spurs not matching that figure, as things stand, the game will still be going ahead.

Tottenham will be hoping the PCR results will show false positive lateral flow tests.

The club did have two positive tests earlier this season, with both turning out to be false positives.

Postponing the clash against Brighton could still prove problematic for Spurs after their match against Burnley last month was called off following heavy snow.

Tottenham are facing a fixture pile-up until the New Year, with the club scheduled to play EIGHT times between now and Janaury 1.

As they juggle the Premier League along with the Carabao Cup and Europa Conference League, Spurs will play a game every midweek until they face Watford in 2022.
