Racing punter’s Christmas comes early after winning £19,500 from just £16 – as bettors everywhere bash the bookies

ONE lucky racing punter’s Christmas came early – after winning £19,500 from a £16 bet.

The shrewd bettor somehow picked out massive 18-1, 28-1 and 14-1 winners on Monday.

The Betfair punter’s winning bet was a real beauty and certainly paid for Christmas

And their mega windfall capped off a magical few days for punters, many of whom won thousands upon thousands backing the same 2267-1 bet.

To the latest winner, though, and to Lingfield, where their first winner came.

The Betfair punter had somehow picked out Waikiki Waves at 18-1 in the 2m7f handicap hurdle.

The Gary Moore-trained eight-year-old had been pulled up and beaten 28 lengths on two runs this season.

But he saw off 7-2 shot Doyen Queen in the 1pm at the Surrey track to kick the £2 each way trixie off in style.

Next it was over to Wolverhampton where 28-1 Ruby Red Empress obliged.

A massive 28-1, the Sean Curran-trained filly had won two of her previous three races and was only 1lb higher than for the last of them.

But she went onto win convincingly in the 1m1½f Betway Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap.

The cash out would have been incredibly tempting by this point but the punter held their nerve and was duly rewarded when 14-1 Madrinho won the 7pm at Wolverhampton.

All in all the £16 stake returned a stonking £19,448.54.
