Christian Eriksen on brink of Brentford transfer as ex-Spurs star closes in on six-month deal after cardiac arrest shock

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN is reportedly ‘close’ to finalising a short-term deal with Premier League new boys Brentford.

Eriksen has not featured since suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020, and had his contract with Inter terminated last month after being banned from playing in Serie A.

Eriksen is nearing a move to Brentford, according to reports

But the 29-year-old is on the brink of a return to the Premier League, according to Sky Sports.

It’s claimed Brentford are currently close to finalising terms with the playmaker, with an announcement seemingly imminent.

The West Londoners are now understood to be going through the motions of confirming whether he is fit and ready to play.

A work permit needs to be granted for him to play, but as Eriksen is currently a free agent there is no rush against the clock to get anything over the line.

Both Leicester and Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Eriksen, but it’s the Bees who are now close to getting a deal over the line.

Eriksen was prevented from playing in Italy due to having an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) fitted to the heart.

However it is not illegal to play in the UK with the device, although it will be the first time ever an ICD has been worn in the Premier League – should a deal go through.

The former Tottenham man has been in training close to his home in Milan with Swiss third-tier side FC Chiasso as he gears up for a return to action.

And he has also stepped up his preparations in recent days by spending time training with Ajax’s reserves.

Eriksen will join up with his Denmark international colleagues Christian Norgaard and Mathias Jensen should a deal go though.

The strong Danish connection at the club continues with boss Thomas Frank, as well as a number of other first team members.

Brentford in fact have used SEVEN Danish players in the Premier League this campaign, more than any other teams in the competitions history.

Although it looks like they could be making it eight in the near future.
