Vitor Pereira ‘set to be named Everton manager’ and replace sacked Rafa Benitez at Goodison Park

EVERTON are set to appoint Vitor Pereira as their new manager, according to reports.

The Portuguese is expected to replace controversial former boss Rafael Benitez, who was sacked last week.

Vitor Pereira was sacked by Fenerbahce in December

Benitez, 61, was appointed by Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri despite dissenting voices from within the club and its fanbase.

And despite the Spaniard’s tenure being unsuccessful, Moshiri is reportedly set to ignore advice from his peers once again – this time to appoint Pereira.

According to the Mirror, the Iranian wants to push on and appoint Pereira on a deal until the end of the season.

It’s said that Moshiri and fellow stakeholder Alisher Usmanov will once again listen to the advice of agent Kia Joorabchian rather than colleagues within Goodison Park.

Everton have interviewed Frank Lampard over the post while Wayne Rooney has also been in consideration.

Key figures within the club expected the process to be a carefully considered one, with no immediate decision imminent.

But it appears that Moshiri is once again set on rushing into another unpopular appointment.

Toffees fans protested against the 66-year-old’s tenure in Liverpool city centre last night.

Pereira, 53, is currently out of work after being sacked by Fenerbahce in December.

This is the second time he has been axed by the Turkish giants.

While he has also been given the boot by Olympiacos and 1860 Munich in recent years.

He did experience success as Andre Villas-Boas’ successor at Porto between 2011 and 2013, however,

While he won the Chinese Super League and domestic cup during three years at Shanghai Port FC.
