MASON Greenwood will still take home his £75,000-a-week wages despite his rape and GBH arrest.

The Man Utd striker, 20, was held by cops yesterday after allegations surfaced on social media.

He has now been suspended indefinitely from the Premier League club.

A source told SE Online Greenwood will still receive his £75,000-a-week salary pending the outcome of any criminal proceedings.

Other clubs have continued paying players that have been suspended – including City star Benjamin Mendy.

Utd initially said it did “not condone violence of any kind,” but later suspended Greenwood after cops launched a probe.

A second statement confirmed: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

Greenwood spent last night in custody after police swooped on his home in Bowdon, Greater Manchester.

Crime scene investigation vans were seen parked outside the footballer’s house yesterday after the claims surfaced.

Security staff, thought to have been provided by his club, were present at a second home he owns nearby and they confirmed that his parents were inside.

Greenwood’s promising domestic and international career is now in jeopardy after his arrest.

The rising star has impressed on the pitch this season – scoring five goals in the Premier League and one in the Champions League so far.

He joined the team aged just six and rose through the ranks to land himself a regular spot on the first team.

In 2019, he became the youngest footballer to play for Utd in the Champions League when he took the pitch aged 17.

Greenwood has made 129 appearances in total for the Red Devils and netted 35 goals.

In 2020, England manager Gareth Southgate gave the 20-year-old his first cap when Greenwood came off the bench in a 1-0 win against Iceland.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were made aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

“An investigation was launched and following enquiries we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault. 

“He remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
