Wayne Rooney facing FA rap as chiefs demand explanation from Man Utd legend over claim he tried to injure John Terry

THE FA have asked Wayne Rooney to explain his comment that he wanted to injure John Terry.

The Manchester United legend, 36, revealed he changed his studs for the clash at Chelsea in April 2006 to ‘hurt someone’.

Terry laughed off Rooney’s comments on social media as he made light of the Derby gaffer’s shocking revelation

In an interview with the Mail on Sunday, the Derby gaffer spoke of his intention to injure a Blues player as they closed in on back-to-back Premier League titles.

And that he did as he left his mark on John Terry, resulting in his English compatriot receiving treatment while his sock was stained with blood.

Eventually, the centre-back was able to continue and the Blues went on to wrap up the top-flight championship with a 3-0 victory over the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge.

Rooney remarked: “We knew if Chelsea won then they had won the league that day.

“Until my last game for Derby, I always wore the old plastic studs with the metal tip.

“For that game I changed them to big, long metal ones – the maximum length you could have because I wanted to try and hurt someone, try and injure someone.

“I knew they were going to win that game. You could feel they were a better team at the time so I changed my studs.

“The studs were legal but thinking if there’s a challenge there I knew I’d want to go in for it properly, basically. I did actually.

“John Terry left the stadium on crutches. I left a hole in his foot and then I signed my shirt to him after the game.

“A few weeks later I sent it to him and asked for my stud back.

“If you look back when they were celebrating, JT’s got his crutches from that tackle.”

Terry laughed off the revelation on Twitter as he took to social media to make light of Rooney’s comments.

He quipped: “Is this when you left your stud in my foot?”
