Vettel OUT of F1 season opener at Bahrain GP after testing positive for Covid

He said: “Honestly I’m not 100 percent sure of the rules in Saudi Arabia but let’s hope.”

Aston Martin endured a miserable first race with Lance Stroll finishing 12th and Hulkenberg in 17th in Bahrain.

And Krack says their result was not helped by Vettel’s absence as they try to resolve their aerodynamic problems.

He added: “It [Vettel’s absence] came at the point where we really do not need it because you have no references at all.

“And then you change your driver at the last moment. So that leaves you with only one reference, which is always quite dangerous.

“It’s difficult for Nico, obviously, to jump in like that. He has no reference either. He didn’t test, so you are a bit in the dark.

“For sure it was not a help. But still that does not say that the car is quick.

“We had to work all winter testing around these problems. I think we’re not the only ones.

“So we didn’t really know where we were. It was a surprise. A negative one, unfortunately.”
