It has seen AJ relocate from Sheffield with promoter Hearn revealing the partnership is going well.

He said: “He seems very happy at Loughborough.

“He went there just as a trial and has been up there since, that’s quite a good sign.

“I’m sure there will be other additions to the team, but this was all about AJ feeling confident in his surroundings and he seems very happy there.”

Oleksandr Usyk reveals reason for leaving Ukraine to fight Anthony Joshua

‘How I’ll help my country’

Usyk CONFIRMS he has left Ukraine front line to train for Joshua

Joshua, 32, first brought in Fernandez before beating Andy Ruiz Jr, 32, in their December 2019 rematch.

He has frequently been seen holding pads for the heavyweight superstar, acting as No2 under Rob McCracken.

AJ won gold with Team GB mastermind McCracken and became a two-time unified champion in the professional ranks.

But after his most recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk, 35, in September, Joshua was left considering his coaching team.

And after months of speculation, he confirmed Fernandez will be the man leading the charge.

Their first fight together will be a rematch with Usyk, who recently confirmed he will leave Ukraine to start training camp.

Hearn added: “[Joshua]’s excited by the news, he’s over the moon. I saw him at the UFC and he wants to fight now.

“He was getting to a stage where he had to fight, and this has really forced the issue with Usyk because we said to them that we understood the situation, but we needed to know now.

“They said they would make their decision and this is their decision, he’s going for it. AJ’s over the moon.”
