Max Verstappen’s dad relishes Lewis Hamilton’s F1 woes after watching star son LAP Mercedes rival at Emilia Romagna GP

JOS VERSTAPPEN “enjoyed” watching his son lap Lewis Hamilton during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last week as the Mercedes driver continues to struggle.

Hamilton’s season went from bad to worse on Sunday when he finished 13th in Imola.

It was his worst result of the year so far, but the seven-time World Champion was left even more disheartened as he was LAPPED by Max Verstappen, who then went on to win the race, on the 41st lap.

But, Max’s father Jos has made it clear that he does not sympathise with Hamilton whatsoever.

In a column on Vertappen’s official website, he wrote: “Honestly, I did enjoy seeing Max lap Hamilton, after everything that happened last year.

“Hamilton really had a tough time, whereas his team-mate George Russell seemed to be more balanced.

Hamilton and Verstappen were fierce rivals last season as they battled for the championship title.

Verstappen pipped the Brit to the post by a matter of seconds to clinch it in a controversial season finale.

However, this year has presented a completely different story.

The new design regulations – which were introduced this year – have put Mercedes well off the pace.

Hamilton even admitted defeat last week following his performance in Imola.

After the race, he said: “It’s been difficult, but I don’t really know what to say. It’s definitely not easy.

“I am out of the championship, and there’s no question about that.

“But I’ll still keep working as hard as I can, to try and pull it back together somehow.

“It has been a weekend to forget for sure.”
