ROY JONES JR named Muhammad Ali in his boxing Mount Rushmore but had no room for Floyd Mayweather.

A trend in recent years has seen four fighters picked as the greatest representations in their respected sport.

American Jones, who won belts in four divisions including heavyweight, could easily feature on any mythical boxing list.

But the retired legend, 53, opted against picking himself when naming his star-studded group to Shannon Sharpe.

Jones said: “I’d put Muhammad Ali at the top, I would probably put Sugar Ray Robinson second.

“I would probably put Salvador Sanchez third, and I would probably stop there because after that I could take [Sugar Ray] Leonard, [Roberto] Duran, [Julio Cesar] Chavez.”

Jones was only able to pick a definitive top three with the fourth place spot too hard to choose.

He said: “[Marvin] Hagler would come after that. But if you want my top three, that’s my top three.

“Anything after that, they’re my top three.”

He died in 2016 at the age of 74, leaving behind a great legacy outside the ring.

Ray Robinson came before Ali, ruling during the 50s and 60s at middleweight and is widely regarded as an icon.

Mexican Sanchez is perhaps the more unknown name and won the featherweight world title.

But he tragically died in 1982 at the age of just 23 after a car crash, with many predicting he was destined to be a great.

Interestingly, Jones did not include Mayweather, the self-proclaimed “Best Ever” who retired at a record-breaking 50-0.

Following Jones’ demise in the early 2000s, it was Mayweather who inherited his crown as America’s next biggest star.

Even at the age of 45, he continues to box and returns on Saturday in an exhibition bout against ex-sparring partner Don Moore, 42, in Dubai.
