Hi, what are you looking for?

Horse Racing

Miss football? Get your sporting fix with racing from Clonmel today!

With all football cancelled, no rugby on the screens and people everywhere up corona creek without a paddle, horse racing has once again come to the rescue!

Irish action from Clonmel goes full steam ahead today, and it’s definitely worth switching over from Tipping Point as there are some classy contenders on show.

The Flat hit the headlines yesterday at Naas, and today it’s the turn of the Jumps at Clonmel.

And you won’t find many more exciting venues than the County Tipperary track, which always attracts some of the top chasers and hurdlers in the sport.

Once again, Ireland has come to the rescue and their feature contest of the day – the 4.00 – is well worth a watch.

Among the five runners are two horses from the Willie Mullins stable – arguably the finest trainer in England and Ireland – and both can be given strong chances.

Bachasson, the hot favourite, is slightly unusual in that he tends to mix running over hurdles with running over fences.

However, there’s no doubting his ability and the fact he managed to finish sixth in the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival just shows the kind of form he’s in at the moment.

He will be hard to beat back over the larger obstacles now, as will the very talented Death Duty, but perhaps the way to go is by siding with MORTAL.

There are plenty of young jockeys with potential in Ireland at the moment, but none is as exciting as Oakley Brown.

Clonmel always attracts some of the best horses around

He’s still very much in the early stages of his career but has experience beyond his years and takes off a valuable 7lb.

This race is what’s called a conditions chase, where each horse carries weight in relation to races they’ve won in recent months.

Mortal has to carry a little extra weight but it’s offset by Brown’s claim – as he’s so inexperienced – and that could be the difference between winning and losing.

He looks a decent price at around the 7-1 mark and may well be worth looking at on the Sun Racing page.

There are plenty of other good races on the card – with much bigger fields than this one – so, without any other sport on the TV, why not sit down and enjoy?
