Jesse Lingard and Jack Colback look baffled as they try to read note given to them by manager in Nottingham Forest loss

NOTTINGHAM FOREST duo Jesse Lingard and Jack Colback looked perplexed as they read a note from their manager.

Lingard and Colback both played the full 90 minutes as Forest fell to a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

A number of new players at the club mean things may take a while to gel into place

After going 1-0 down to a Fabian Schar rocket, Forest manager Steve Cooper tried to tweak his set-up by passing on some tactical instructions.

However, while the note was received, it appeared to go over the heads of the pair.

Both seemed to be confused by the note Cooper had handed them.

And things went from bad to worse as Callum Wilson scored with a stunning flick which looped over Dean Henderson 10 minutes later.

Former Manchester United star Lingard is one of 12 new signings Forest have made this summer.

And reports indicate there could be even more to come, with moves for former Manchester City full-back Angelino and Dutch star Jizz Hornkamp apparently in the works.

The club are playing in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years after beating Huddersfield in the play-off final at the end of last season.

The two-time European Champions have also given football nostalgists a treat by donning a shirt with no sponsor in their first Prem game.

Forest’s aim this season will undoubtedly be to avoid relegation, but they will need to drastically improve if they are to reach their target.

Cooper’s side managed just 0.30 Expected Goals to their opponent’s 1.53, and their value was the lowest generated by any team who have played so far.

They will face another stern test against West Ham next week, and The Irons faithful could still be sore over Lingard snubbing them for Forest.
