Mystery as leading jockey Sean Levey to miss Racing League final and potential £20,000 bonus after being stood down

RACING LEAGUE leading rider Sean Levey will miss the final night at Newcastle after he was stood down at Sandown on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old was taken off his single mount at the Esher track for medical reasons.

Levey could miss out on a big £20,000 Racing League bonus after he was mysteriously stood down by stewards at Sandown

He was originally booked to ride Miss Down Under for Amanda Perrett but was stood down by officials.

Levey last rode at Yarmouth on Tuesday but the BHA have since told him he cannot ride until further notice.

He had three rides pencilled in for Newcastle on Thursday but won’t be at the track.

Levey was also booked for six rides at Newbury on Friday but has already been stood down from three of them.

The news comes just a week after fellow rider Marco Ghiani failed a drugs test and could face a possible six-month ban.

Levey currently stands to win a £20,000 bonus as top jockey in the £2million Racing League series.

A member of Matt Chapman’s leading Team London and The South, Levey is 59 points clear of closest pursuer Harrison Shaw.

The final night of the six-week Racing League competition will take place at Newcastle tonight.

Shaw cannot catch Levey as he has only two rides on the night.

But in a funny twist of fate Levey’s team-mate Daniel Muscutt could leapfrog him at the top of the table because he has seven rides.

Saffie Osborne, riding for her dad’s Wales and The West team, could also overtake Levey and pocket the £20,000 top jockey prize.

Jockeys get 25 points for winning a race, with £50,000 going to the winning team and a further £5,000 going to each of the winning team’s jockeys.

More to follow.
