Jurgen Klopp has challenged his Liverpool stars to defend better

The Reds have endured a stuttering start to the campaign

Klopp,  celebrating seven years in charge on Sunday, fumed: “We need consistency to get the rubbish out of everything.

“We have to get to where we’re outstanding again.

“We have to defend the s*** out of everything — that’s why I say the word ‘rubbish’.”

Klopp went for the throat as he blasted his Liverpool stars ahead of Sunday’s clash at leaders Arsenal.

Defeat would leave the Reds 14 POINTS behind the Gunners.

The Kop chief added: “We have to find a way and we are still a work in progress to do it. You want a solution and you want it clicking mentally.

“We have to get through the tunnel and see the light again and I’d be optimistic about that.”

And in support of under-fire right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, the German said: “The way we defend we have to be brave — we jump out with our full-backs to the opposition full-backs.

“People are saying we can’t defend like this but we did it for 200 games. It’s always clear that there is no system in the world with no weaknesses.”

Klopp, who scrapped his favoured 4-3-3 formation for a new 4-2-3-1 system for the midweek 2-0 Champions League win over Rangers, added: “Sometimes you need to take a step back and commit to a common plan.”
