Newcastle striker Gayle wanted by West Brom again after he scored 23 goals there last season

DWIGHT GAYLE is wanted back at West Brom for their Premier League push.

The Newcastle striker, 29, was at the Hawthorns on loan last season and helped them reach the play-offs.

West Brom are hoping to re-sign Gayle after he scored 23 times there last term

And Slaven Bilic is keen on getting him back at the club and adding his pace to his table-topping strike-force.

Under Darren Moore last season Gayle scored 23 goals before heading back to St James Park.

Last weekends sub appearance at Chelsea was his first game of the season having been frozen out.

But Toon boss Steve Bruce insists the ex-Crystal Palace forward will get a chance now he is fit.

Despite that, West Brom will be waiting in the wings if Bruce allows him to leave in January.

Bilic has Hal Robson-Kanu, Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore but would welcome competition in his attack.

Meanwhile, it’s been revealed Newcastle star Andy Carroll is training just twice a week in a bid to stay fit.

The Toon striker, 30, has made four straight substitute appearances after recovering from an ankle operation.

But boss Bruce has tailored a specialist programme for Carroll – who re-joined on a free transfer in the summer – which he hopes will enable him to start a match soon.
