Man United players furiously protest Chelsea’s penalty

Both incidents saw Red Devils players surround the respective referees protesting decisions.

United were found to be in breach of FA Rule E20.1 after Cristiano Ronaldo and his team-mates protested the decision to disallow the striker’s goal during the 0-0 Old Trafford draw with the Toon.

And they have been punished for a similar incident against Chelsea, when they complained about the awarding of a penalty for a foul by Scott McTominay on Armando Broja.

The Red Devils have been fined £45k for the incident against Newcastle and £37k for the Chelsea melee.

Man United fans online have had a mixed response to the news.

One joked: “That means no transfers.”

Another similarly quipped: “There goes the January transfer kitty.”

Some others took a more frustrated view.
