Chelsea are also reportedly set to make contact but face a challenge as the RB Leipzig striker has a soft spot for the Anfield side.

While his final destination remains unclear, the 24-year-old has been using the his spare time in coronavirus lockdown to prepare for any Premier League move by brushing up on his English, according to Bleacher Report.

Werner has enjoyed a stunning season in the Bundesliga bagging 27 goals in 36 appearances as Leipzig climbed to third in the table.

The German international is reportedly high on the list at the Blues who are ready to let Olivier Giroud leave and bring in added quality to provide serious competition to Tammy Abraham.

Lampard has made it clear to the board he needs to sign a forward having been heavily linked with Paris Saint Germain’s Edinson Cavani in January.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona have been linked with Werner since last summer but Klopp is eager to tempt the Leipzig ace away from his former rivals to add to his already potent attack.

Any attempts for Klopp to meet up with Werner are being prevented by coronavirus.

And with the UK currently in lockdown, both interested clubs will struggle to activate his £50million release clause before June 15.

Werner has a special place in his heart for the Reds who he recently hailed as “the best team in the world”.

But Leipzig director Markus Krosche has since admitted any transfer could be cancelled because of the global pandemic.
