Twitter in meltdown over jockey’s ride that ‘needs to be seen to be believed’

JOCKEY Sean Bowen sent Twitter into meltdown on a quiet Thursday with a ride that ‘had to be seen to be believed’.

And even his own brother James was left purring ‘what a jockey!’ after seeing his heroics at Ffos Las.

The brilliant scenes unfolded as Bowen rode Best Trition for trainer Olly Murphy in a handicap chase at the Welsh track.

Bowen, 25, and Best Trition were still three-and-a-half lengths down at the last of 18 fences.

Charlie Deutsch looked to be in cruise control on leader and 7-4 favourite Dentley De Mee.

Slogging through the mud – six horses had already been pulled up – the Venetia Williams-trained ten-year-old was clearly revelling in the conditions.

And they appeared nailed on for the £7,000 winner’s prize with Best Trition seemingly well beat.

But it isn’t over till it’s over – and Bowen had other intentions.

He kept asking his horse for more and the eight-year-old, sent off 12-1, eventually responded well to pressure.

In a thrilling finish Bowen and Best Trition just pipped Dentley De Mee in the very last stride after three gruelling miles of racing.

Bowen’s brilliance in the saddle and his refusal to give up had punters hailing his talent.

One said: “Like a prime AP McCoy ride that!”

One comment read: “Some serious ‘never say die’ from Sean Bowen on Best Trition at Ffos Las.”

Another wrote: “I must have watched the Sean Bowen ride on Best Trition a good 50 times, gutsy as ever, top pilot!”

Respected tipster and bookie Johnny Dineen said: “Sean Bowen has just won a race there in Ffos Las on Best Trition that has to be seen to be believed.

“You won’t see better for a long time, and Deutsch rode a good race on the second which makes Bowen’s ride even more meritorious.

“He’s simply a brilliant jockey.”

And even one losing punter admitted: “I was on the second and I totally agree, fantastic jockeyship.”
