Man Utd and Arsenal in huge Upamecano transfer boost as Leipzig drop biggest hint yet centre-back will be sold

MANCHESTER UNITED have been handed a huge transfer boost with the news that RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano could leave for £53.25million.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to press ahead with his Old Trafford overhaul this summer.

Dayot Upamecano could be heading out of RB Leipzig this summer, with Manchester United eyeing the Frenchman

And there should be a case for the defence – with the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcus Rojo and Diogo Dalot all looking likely to leave.

Upamecano has been earning rave reviews in the Bundesliga, with a host of top European clubs believed to be in the transfer hunt for him.

And with the coronavirus pandemic causing economic uncertainty to European football, it could force Leipzig’s hand.

As well as United, Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City, as well as German champs Bayern Munich have been linked with the French centre-half.

And speaking to Sport 1, as reported by Goal, Leipzig managing director Oliver Mintzlaff hinted that Upamecano could be heading out.

He also suggested star striker Timo Werner, heavily linked with Liverpool and Chelsea, is another big name who could switch clubs.

He said: “In the Covid-19 crisis, we have other issues greater than concerns about contracts.

“We know the terms of our players’ contracts and I know them very well – especially that of our top performers.

“For us, it is a no go that the top performers will be allowed to leave our club free of charge.

“That’s the case with Timo Werner and that will be the case with Dayot Upamecano. I have the economic stability of the club in mind.”

The 21-year-old defender has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig this season

He joined the Bundesliga side from their sister club RB Salzburg back in 2015 for £4.5m.

He has been capped at France U21 level.
