Spurs fans in hysterics as Marcus Edwards makes Arsenals Kieran Tierney look daft to score for Guimaraes

TOTTENHAM fans were left in hysterics after Marcus Edwards made Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney look daft as he gave Guimaraes the lead.

The former Spurs star, 20, once dubbed the “new Lionel Messi” by Mauricio Pochettino ensured the Gunners got off to the worst possible start.

Spurs fans were left in stitches after Edwards scored against Arsenal

Guimaraes ace Edwards stylishly turned Tierney, showing quick feet and great ball control, before thundering the ball home at the Emirates.

Just three years ago, Spurs boss Poch had said: “The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi.

“He’s small, he’s left-footed, I remember a little bit (Erik) Lamela when he was at River Plate, remember he had long hair, when he was 14, 15 years old.

“He is a very good prospect and potentially he can be a top player, but we need to be patient and tell him that he has a lot of talent, enough talent to be a top player, a great player.”

After loan spells at Norwich and Excelsior in Holland in 2018 and 2019, Edwards was allowed to leave permanently in the summer to join Guimaraes.

And Spurs fans were left with a smile on their face as he netted against fierce rivals Arsenal in the Europa League.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “A former Spurs player playing for Vitoria Guimaraes having the game of his life in the Emirates is really the most Arsenal thing in the world.”

Another said: “Marcus Edwards still hates the Gooners. You love to see it.”

A third joked: “Edwards has the same amount of goals at the Emirates as Pepe. Just saying.”

One even said: “Marcus Edwards scoring at the Emirates is all I ever wanted #COYS”.
