Arsenal star David Luiz wants to quit the Gunners in order to finish his career at Benfica

ARSENAL star David Luiz has admitted he wants to quit the Gunners in order to finish his career at Benfica.

The Brazilian defender, 33, made his name with the Portuguese giants before arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2011.

David Luiz wants to end his career at his former club Benfica

Luiz was just 19 when he signed for Benfica in 2007 after initially joining them on loan from Brazilian club Vitoria.

He went on to star during four scintillating years with the Primera Liga giants before the Blues forked out £21.5million to land his signature.

The experienced Brazil ace was shipped off to rivals Arsenal on deadline day for £8million last summer after his second spell in West London.

The defender turned 33 last month and is under contract with the Gunners until next year.

But it seems he has no intentions of finishing his career in North London, having done little to patch up the Emirates’ struggling backline.

The Brazilian told Benfica’s official website: “I always said that I would like to end my career at Benfica.

“In football everything changes, what is true today, tomorrow is a lie, but my feeling is not.

“I love Benfica. My dream is to step on the pitch of Estadio da Luz in their colours.

“For all that I lived and felt, for what Benfica is in my life and in my history, for everything, Benfica is bigger than any player.”

The Emirates ace enjoyed a trophy-laden career with Chelsea, winning the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League twice and the FA Cup twice.

He became the world’s most expensive defender at the time when he completed a £50m move to Paris-Saint Germain from Stamford Bridge in 2014 where he bagged the two Ligue 1 titles but he rejoined the Blues just two years later in a £30m deal.

Despite all the glittering success, Luiz admits that his love for Benfica never dwindled and revealed earlier this year that he wants to star at the Estadio da Luz once more before he hangs up his boots.

He told SporTV: “I never lost my connection with Benfica, I have that in my heart, everybody knows I want to come back.

“I want to wear the Benfica shirt again and feel that sensation.

“The day I come back to the Estadio da Luz it is going to be very special, one of the greatest feelings of my life.”

Hit show MTV Cribs will be returning to screens around the world next month and a trio of top-flight footballers in England including Luiz have signed up to take part.

Gunners fans will get the chance to look around their Brazilian centre-back’s plush London pad.
