Tottenham eye transfer for Atletico Madrid centre-back Stefan Savic but face competition from Monaco

TOTTENHAM are keen on signing Atletico Madrid defender Stevan Savic but face competition from French side Monaco, according to reports.

Former Manchester City ace Savic has impressed in the heart of the Atleti defence, drawing admirers from across Europe’s best clubs.

Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic is being watched with interest by Tottenham

Reports in Spanish outlet AS suggest Spurs and Monaco are two clubs that have recently put themselves in the frame to sign the 29-year-old.

Savic’s contract in the Spanish capital runs until 2022 but he is reportedly being watched by a number of clubs in Spain and abroad.

The report claims that La Liga side Valencia and Serie A champions Juventus are also keenly monitoring his progress.

The Montenegro international previously played in Italy for Fiorentina before signing to play for Diego Simeone‘s Atleti in 2015.

Savic has impressed Simeone with his no-nonsense defending from centre-back and the dependable star has made 151 appearances in all competitions for the club.

He has featured in 19 games this season despite being ruled out of action between October and January with a muscle problem.

It is thought that he is valued at around £25million and could boost Spurs’ defensive options.

Jose Mourinho‘s side seem set to let experienced Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen go on a free transfer and Savic could be an ideal replacement.

He struggled to establish himself at City after signing in 2011 and only made 21 appearances in one season at the Etihad but could be ready to succeed in the Premier League at the second attempt.
