Business as usual for Aidan O’Brien as Love runs out handsome winner of Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket under Ryan Moore

AIDAN O’Brien fell in Love all over again as he landed his sixth 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

After Wichita’s agonising second in Saturday’s 2000 Guineas, his Love made quick amends in the fillies’ Classic under Ryan Moore.

Love reversed the Fillies’ Mile form with ease at Newmarket

The 4-1 shot stayed out of trouble just off the leaders and she burst clear a furlong out to win handsomely by four-and-a-half lengths from Cloak Of Spirits.

Quadrilateral – the 11-4 favourite – was always handy but couldn’t live with the pace of the winner as she stuck on for third.

It was a fourth 1000 Guineas win in the last five runnings for the master of Ballydoyle who was unable to be at the course and had to watch on from the comfort of his office back in Ireland.

Speaking on Zoom afterwards, O’Brien said: “She was well and this has always been her target.

“Ryan gave her a beautiful ride, all very uncomplicated, he had a lovely position on her and had her in a lovely smooth rhythm throughout the whole race.

“She was well balanced into the dip and she’s so genuine, she had her head out and she really ran to the line.”

She was made the general 11-8 favourite for the Oaks off the back of her dominant display and O’Brien confirmed that will be her next target.

He added: “We always thought the Oaks would suit her very well and the Guineas was always going to be the starting point for her.

From two furlongs out there was only ever going to be one winner

“We always thought she’d be for a mile up, and thought she would stay very well.

“The ground was lovely and the distance from the Guineas to the Oaks should be perfect for her.”

It was a fourth 1000 Guineas for Moore and a twelfth British Classic for the Ballydoyle number one.

Moore said: “She’s just a typical Galileo filly that takes her racing very well and has a great mind. She was always in control of the race here.

“I thought she’d win the Fillies’ Mile last year and maybe the ground was just a bit slow for her. Maybe she didn’t show her true running that day.

“She’d be like Minding, and I didn’t ride Hermosa in this but she’d be very similar to them. Just straightforward, high-class and very tough.”
