Allegri Real Madrids No1 choice ahead of Mourinho as civil war would break out if ex-Man Utd boss were appointed

MASSIMILIANO ALLEGRI has emerged as Real Madrid’s No1 choice to replace Zinedine Zidane, should he be fired.

The former Juventus boss has moved ahead of ex-Manchester United chief Jose Mourinho.

Massimiliano Allegri, left, could be favourite for the Real Madrid job instead of Jose Mourinho if Zinedine Zidane is axed

The Real president Florentino Perez has been told he would face a “civil war” among the players if Mourinho returned to the Bernabeu.

Ex-Real star Francisco Aguilar has tweeted that Madrid would go into meltdown if Zidane was sacked and Portuguese Mourinho, who desperately wants the job, was appointed.

He says the safer option would be to go for Allegri, who dominated Italy’s Serie A with Juve.

He posted: “Florentino would like to put Mourinho on the site of Zidane, but it would lead to a ‘civil war’ with the players, with Sergio Ramos in the lead.

“Hence, Massimiliano Allegri, who continues to reject Manchester United, is the best solution for Real Madrid.”

Zidane and Perez have been at loggerheads since the Frenchman returned to the club as boss in March.

And Los Blancos’ performances on the pitch have not helped his case as the pressure has mounted.

His big-money signings including Eden Hazard have also flopped.

He has also clashed with Gareth Bale, thought to be a favourite of Perez.

Allegri, 52, has managed seven clubs in Italy, enjoying huge success at AC Milan and Juve.

Mourinho managed Real from 2010 until he was axed in 2013.

The former Chelsea boss was not too popular with many of the players though.
