Jorginho set to stay at Chelsea this summer as agent reveals nobody can afford transfer fee Lampard is demanding

JORGINHO is unlikely to move this summer with prospective buyers unable to match Chelsea’s valuation of the midfielder, according to his agent.

After the Blues began to splash their cash with the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, Joao Santos believes his client will be slapped with a high price tag.

Jorginho is under contract until 2023 at Stamford Bridge

Many clubs are tightening their belts amid the coronavirus pandemic although Chelsea are well-placed to spend having gone 12 months without a major signing.

Santos told CalcioMercato24.com: “It will be a unique market because nobody knows when it will return to normal, if we play the next season without fans then nobody will be able to afford signings.

“The next season could be behind closed doors, and that’s a big deal.

“Chelsea have already spent because they were unable to buy last year.

“[Jorginho’s] price has certainly increased in recent years , in London he did well and has played for the national team.

“He is now a Chelsea captain and has accumulated a lot of experience in the Champions League and in the Europa League.

“I think it is very difficult to see an offer for Jorginho arriving, there is no team at this particular moment that can make this type of investment.”

Chelsea paid Napoli £57million when landing the playmaker in 2018, and would expect considerably more if a bid lands this summer.

Juventus have been strongly linked with an offer for the 28-year-old, which would mean a third stint playing under Bianconeri coach Maurizio Sarri.

Indeed, Santos touted the possibility of “two top European clubs” making moves for his client only last month.

However he now says Jorginho is ready to play his part in Chelsea’s quest to finish in the top-four.

The agent added: “Jorginho has been training for a month with Chelsea, he’s doing well and in the last match against Aston Villa he didn’t play due to suspension.

“Now he awaits the next game.”
