Chester Race Company confirmed as new operator of Scottish track Musselburgh ending long-running saga

CHESTER have been confirmed as the new operators of Musselburgh racecourse on a ten-year contract.

The move to secure the track’s future has been ongoing since last October.

And days before the Lothian track hosts its first behind closed doors fixture next Wednesday, the Chester Race Company announced the deal has gone through.

This will safeguard the course’s future following a period where their licence was threatened due to disputes over governance involving owners East Lothian Council.

At some stages, it even appeared the British Horseracing Authority could strip Musselburgh of their licence to race.

But now Chester, who also run the successful Bangor-on-Dee track, are in control they’re looking forward to a bright future.

Musselburgh’s General Manager Bill Farnsworth said: “The appointment of Chester Race Company to run Musselburgh marks a new chapter in the history of our 200-year-old racecourse.

“Chester’s management team has an excellent track record and we are delighted to be working with one of the best racecourse teams in the country.

“They share the same values as Musselburgh in their ambition to provide a five-star racing and hospitality experience, to host quality horse racing, offer excellent customer service and to invest where possible to improve the racing and customer infrastructure.”
